Teach a Man to Fish...Paragon Teaching Philosophy for Clay Targets and Wingshooting

To expand on my recommended 2018 New Years Resolutions, please consider the following. These are just a few of the basics, commonly overlooked or unintentionally compromised. First…there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using our natural, eye-hand coordination to break targets. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t start here, and it works. Literally, millions of targets have been broken this way. That’s a truth. Here, however, is the other side of that truth. Using your raw, unrefined instincts to break targets inevitably leads to inconsistencies in your swing and lost targets. To break targets on purpose takes a certain correctness built into each ...

Sporting Clays Shooting Expectations

Teach a Man to Fish...Paragon Teaching Philosophy for Clay Targets and Wingshooting

New shooters coming into our sport are often discouraged by their early scores on a Sporting Clays range. While out and about, I see and hear this many times. Our shooter is “only” breaking about 50% of his or her targets, maybe a few more, but always well below their expectations. This, of course, is completely understandable because they are comparing their scores to others who just shot in the 80’s or possibly a 90 something. What the heck is going on? Here’s the example of what’s going on. Hummelstown Field & Stream is a small gun club just minutes outside of downtown Hershey PA. Missing: It's Business Not Personal    Self-criticism is more exhausting than pushing a refrigerator up a hill. 5. Balancing: Commitments and Expectations    We can't take more out of sporting clays than we put in.   Thanks for stopping by. Be safe and I hope to ...

Of course, we are. And why not? That was our intention right…that’s why we’re out here…to break the target. Social sporting clays shooters will be happy with 1 X here and there. Many of us, however, want XXXXXX. That changes things for us. While an X can be (and should be) gratifying…will that X lead you to more Xs? Good question. If the X was the accidental result of a swing error…it’s doubtful more Xs will follow because an inconsistent swing just can’t be dependable. X00XX0. Random gun movement (RGM) just can’t deliver XXXX reliably…and it won’t. Top sporting clays shooters intentionally reduce random gun ...

Do you feel you are a better sporting clays shooter than your score sheet shows? Are you tired of letting your dogs down in the hunting field? Are ready to take the mystery out of your inconsistent shooting? Rules of Engagement by Daniel Schindler"The problem with being self-taught usually begins with the teacher." For those who tire of the self-taught route, before calling an Instructor to inquire about fees, scheduling and such, here are a few suggestions from someone who's many times been both a student and teacher. For an Instructor working with a corporate or social group, it's all about safety and providing entertainment. Formal instruction is not on the menu. Wingshooting ...
