Moran Family Adventure

Today we reflect on the wonderful adventure we shared with the Moran Family. The family members traveled to River Bend Sportsmans Resort, Inman SC, from Colorado, New Jersey and New York to spend a few days taking Sporting Clays and Wingshooting lessons with Daniel Schindler, Founder of Paragon School of Sporting. During the family's 3-day stay, it was hard to tell who had more fun. Grandfather, John Moran, took his shooting to a whole new level. Patrick and his 2 sons, Tate and Japes enjoyed moving their shooting forward and learning to break the various target presentations. There was a lot of trash talk and camaraderie. Johnny, the city boy, came alive and ...

This IS the Paragon teaching philosophy: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."  Lao Tzu, Chinese Philosopher and founder of Taoism   XXXXXX We teach you - from the very first lesson forward: How to Break the Targets. How to Self-Correct your Miss. How to Duplicate your Successful Shot - Consistently.  The atmosphere is relaxed and happy. Shooting should be fun, safe, and educational too. Paragon sessions not only build confidence in the shooting box but also teach respect for the game, guns, and targets. The overall experience is both enlightening and ...

If there’s a common denominator in the phone calls we receive regarding instruction, it’s about the same word…consistency. As in, “Why am I not consistent?” The gentleman in Alaska was on the phone asking that question. His being a AA shooter, I could hear his frustration. He knew, correctly, that he was better than his scorecards were showing. After a few minutes of listening, I very politely explained that I knew why he was not consistent. After a bit of silence, he very respectfully said there wasn’t any way I could know that. He went on to say, we’d never met, and to his knowledge, I’d never seen him shoot. AND…he said ...

"The good news is…when that same swing component is executed correctly…the target will break."  All those who DON’T care if they break the target…please raise your hand. The truth is, we all want the target to break. And…without fail…every single time…there’s a very specific, valid reason why it did break…and why it didn’t. It’s long past time for all the mystery around X’s and 0’s to end. Just what is it, exactly, that we have to do to break the target CONSISTENTLY? It’s cold. And making it worse, it’s windy. The rain is more on than off. So the course is empty. ...

Are You Giving Your Game Away?

You shot well today. Even your swing mistakes managed to catch a piece, XX. Everything just felt right, the targets looked slower than usual. Every X reinforced the momentum…your confidence a force driving the gun. Planned and rehearsed, sight picture after sight picture appeared right on time, again and again. XXXXXX. This momentum carried you through the final 3 stations to your best tournament score ever. It’s 2:15 in the clubhouse and you’re reminiscing so many good shots today. A friend strolls by and says you’ve tied the club “protester” and there’ll be a shoot-off at 2:45.  The protester has a reputation for disruptive ...
